When Life Gets Out of Balance…

Counseling Helps You

Put It All Back Together.

Overdoing it

Too much eating, too much drinking, too much exercising, or shopping ..? We can find ourselves doing too much of something … and not realize we’re doing it to hide ourselves from something painful. When we do something TOO MUCH…life gets out of balance.

Traumatic events

A painful life event such as divorce, physical, emotional, or sexual abuse, loss of a job or loved one…can distort the way you see yourself and your life… That distortion can lead to hiding your heart from pain through activities or something else, like excessive shopping, emotional eating, overwork and substance abuse.

I work with people in Wynnewood, Bala Cynwyd, Narberth, Merion, Gladwynne, Penn Valley, and the greater Philadelphia, PA area, who’ve decided they want to stop “overdoing it.” Without judgment or blame, we talk about ways to change your thinking, your approach to emotional events, and how to work on the changes that make life better. Then you can turn that urge to ‘overdo’ into something healthy and positive in your life. Changes that matter in life don’t happen in one try, but over time you’ll see a remarkable improvement.

Abandonment

If you feel abandoned by parents, children, friends, or a lover, you may be feeling some of the worst pain you’ve ever felt. And the scars of that pain can leave you isolated and without support. You may even feel afraid to connect again… and that’s the purpose of therapy. By talking and exploring the scars that hurt so much, you can discover how to help them heal. And by healing, you can feel free to live, and connect, and care about others freely again.

Be comfortable in your own skin

Ever notice how enjoyable it is to spend time with someone who’s completely at
ease in his own skin? He just sets everyone around him at ease…as if there is
nothing in the world to feel awkward about. Know someone like that? So do I.

Ever wish that person was you?

That ease comes from having faced many of the troubling issues none of us wants to face. That person has learned he has nothing to fear. It might be about a habit that’s embarrassing or destructive to you or others. Or maybe scars inflicted by life events that have hidden your confidence and squashed your joy.  That person really CAN be you. As we work together, you’ll unearth aspects of yourself you’d forgotten. You’re going to find the authentic, true You.

Sound appealing?

Good. Because it’s available to you when you invest in yourself. I’m talking about hard work that pays big rewards. But, don’t worry. You won’t have to do it alone.

I work with a variety of behavioral and emotional issues, using the tools at my disposal, to help you gain mastery over those things that have hindered you. The misery of those unwelcome habits can seem intimidating at first, but we’ll face all that together. And you’ll find that as you confront it, it loses its power to thwart your growth.

For many,  spirituality provides added balance. Developing in that area can bring questions and uncertainty. I can help with that, too.

No matter what it is you want to change, it’s courageous to take those steps.

I offer counseling for a wide variety of concerns such as:

  • eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia, emotional eating, etc)
  • substance abuse (drug, alcohol, other substances)
  • excessive shopping
  • physical, emotional, or sexual abuse
  • work/life imbalance
  • infidelity and other sexual issues
  • mid-life and empty nest
  • 12-step recovery programs
  • identity and self -esteem
  • family members of alcoholics and substance abusers
  • spirituality and related experiences

If it seems at times that invisible forces drive you…

If life seems out of control…

When grief is vast as an ocean and you feel you may drown…

You don’t have to face it alone.

Let’s face it together and you can build the road to a happier life and a
better future.
